एकदम / निकै / ज्यादै

Very and Quite

Level 2Sounds Like ēkadama, nikai ra jyādai

एकदम and ज्यादै are very, and निकै is quite: यो चिया एकदम मीठो छ.

How It Works

Use एकदम, निकै or ज्यादै to make an adjective stronger. एकदम and ज्यादै mean very: यो चिया एकदम मीठो छ (this tea is very sweet) and यो कोठा ज्यादै सानो छ (this room is very small). निकै means quite or fairly: आजको मौसम निकै राम्रो छ (today the weather is quite nice).

The word comes right before the adjective, and the adjective keeps its normal agreement: एकदम राम्रो, एकदम राम्रा, एकदम राम्री.

ज्यादै can lean toward too much: ज्यादै महँगो छ may mean it is very expensive, even too expensive. एकदम is the everyday word for very. निकै is a step softer, so it fits when you do not want to sound too strong.

These words can go before a verb that describes a feeling: मेरो खुट्टा निकै दुख्छ (my leg hurts quite a lot).
