-इरहेको छ shows an action that is going on right now and continues.

How It Works

This form is close to -दै छ. Both say an action is happening. -इरहेको छ puts more weight on the action not stopping, so it fits long or repeated activity: ऊ अझै सुतिरहेको छ (he is still sleeping).

The linker -इ joins the stem to रहेको in one word, so पढ + इ + रहेको gives पढिरहेको. A transitive verb usually takes no ले here, because this is a present form: राम चिया पिइरहेको छ.

For the past, change छ to थियो: परिरहेको थियो.

    Ram is working at the office.

    The helper छ and -एको go with a man.

    Sarita is learning Nepali.

    -एकी and छिन् agree with a woman.

  4. तपाईं के गरिरहनुभएको छ?

    What are you doing?

    The honorific form is -इरहनुभएको छ.

  5. बच्चाहरू आँगनमा खेलिरहेका छन्।

    The children are playing in the yard.

    -एका and छन् agree with several doers.

Common Mistakes

  • Not agreeing with a woman as the doer.

    सरिता नेपाली सिकिरहेको छिन्।
    सरिता नेपाली सिकिरहेकी छिन्।

    The -एको part changes to -एकी for a woman.

  • Writing the linker -इ and रहेको as two words.

    पानी परि रहेको छ।
    पानी परिरहेको छ।

    The stem, -इ and रहेको are one word.
