Other adjectives that end in a consonant, such as गरम, थंड, गोड and लाल, work the same way.

How It Works

छान means nice or great. सुंदर means beautiful. Both stay the same with every gender and number.

The adjective can come before the noun (छान चहा) or after it with आहे (चहा छान आहे). The adjective keeps its shape in both places.

Many everyday adjectives work the same way: गरम (hot), थंड (cold), गोड (sweet), लाल (red), स्वस्त (cheap), महाग (expensive), हुशार (clever). Learn each one once, and it fits every noun.

    छान tells how the food tastes and does not change.

Common Mistakes

  • Adding an ending to छान or सुंदर to match the noun.

    ही साडी छानी आहे.
    ही साडी छान आहे.

    छान never takes -ी, -ा or -े. Only adjectives like चांगला change.

  • Using the Hindi word अच्छा.

    आजचा दिवस अच्छा आहे.
    आजचा दिवस छान आहे.

    अच्छा is Hindi. Marathi says छान, or चांगला when the adjective changes with the noun.
