तुम्हारा / आपका
Your
आपका is the polite your and तुम्हारा is the friendly your.
How It Works
Hindi has three words for your, one for each word for you.
| You | masculine, one | feminine | masculine, more than one |
|---|---|---|---|
| आप | आपका | आपकी | आपके |
| तुम | तुम्हारा | तुम्हारी | तुम्हारे |
| तू | तेरा | तेरी | तेरे |
Choose the word that matches how you address the person. If you call someone आप, say आपका. If you call them तुम, say तुम्हारा. Keep to one in the same conversation.
Then choose the ending from the thing owned: आपका नाम, आपकी किताब, आपके दोस्त. The owner's gender does not matter: आपकी किताब works for a man and for a woman.
Before a postposition, the masculine singular forms become आपके and तुम्हारे: आपके घर में (in your house).
तेरा goes with तू. It sounds very close or very rude, so use it only where तू fits.
