से ज़्यादा / से कम
Comparing Things
से means than: मीरा रवि से लंबी है. Add ज़्यादा for more and कम for less.
How It Works
Pattern: X + Y से + adjective + है.
| Hindi | Meaning |
|---|---|
| मीरा रवि से लंबी है। | Meera is taller than Ravi. |
| यह कमरा उस कमरे से बड़ा है। | This room is bigger than that room. |
| मेरा भाई मुझसे दो साल बड़ा है। | My brother is two years older than me. |
The adjective agrees with X, not with Y: मीरा रवि से लंबी है has लंबी because मीरा is feminine.
Plain से is enough for most comparisons. Add ज़्यादा (more) or कम (less) to make the degree clear: यह किताब उससे कम महँगी है (This book is less expensive than that one). Use them when you compare amounts or actions: मेरे पास तुमसे ज़्यादा पैसे हैं (I have more money than you), वह मुझसे ज़्यादा जानता है (He knows more than I do).
Y takes its form before a postposition: उस कमरे से. Pronouns join to से: मुझसे, आपसे, इससे (than this), as in इससे कम (less than this).
For the most or the least, use सबसे: सबसे बड़ा (the biggest).
