-ने की कोशिश करना
Trying to Do Something
-ने की कोशिश करना = try to: समझने की कोशिश (trying to understand).
How It Works
Hindi says try to as make an attempt at doing: समझने की कोशिश करना, literally to make the attempt of understanding.
| Tense | Example | English |
|---|---|---|
| habit | मैं समझने की कोशिश करती हूँ | I try to understand |
| now | मैं समझने की कोशिश कर रहा हूँ | I'm trying to understand |
| past | मैंने समझने की कोशिश की | I tried to understand |
| request | समझने की कोशिश करो | try to understand |
The past. करना takes ने in the past, and the verb agrees with its object कोशिश, which is feminine. So it is always की, whoever tried: रवि ने कोशिश की, मैंने कोशिश की. This trips up many learners.
Trying hard. Add बहुत or पूरी before कोशिश: उसने दरवाज़ा खोलने की बहुत कोशिश की (She tried hard to open the door), मैं पूरी कोशिश करूँगा (I'll do my best).
The action can keep its own object: दरवाज़ा खोलने की कोशिश, हिंदी बोलने की कोशिश.
