के बीच / के आसपास

Between and Around

के बीच (में) means between or among, and के आसपास means around or somewhere near.

How It Works

के बीच means between two things or among a group: दो दुकानों के बीच, पेड़ों के बीच, दोस्तों के बीच. You can add में with no change in meaning: दो दुकानों के बीच में.

To name both things, join them with और and put के बीच after the second: स्टेशन और बाज़ार के बीच (between the station and the market). It works for time too: दो और तीन बजे के बीच (between two and three o'clock).

के आसपास means around or near, without an exact spot: स्टेशन के आसपास कई होटल हैं (There are several hotels around the station). With times and numbers it means about: सात बजे के आसपास (around seven), पचास के आसपास (about fifty).

Alone, बीच में means in the middle or in between: बीच में मत बोलो (Don't interrupt). आसपास alone means nearby: यहाँ आसपास (around here).

The noun changes as before any postposition: पेड़ → पेड़ों के बीच, लोग → लोगों के बीच.

    With a time, के आसपास means about.

  5. यहाँ आसपास कोई दवाई की दुकान है?

    Is there a pharmacy around here?

    आसपास alone: nearby.
