कब
Asking When
आप कब आएँगे? means When will you come?
How It Works
कब means when. Like other question words, it goes before the verb and the rest keeps its normal order.
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| आप कब आएँगे? | मैं कल आऊँगा। |
| फ़िल्म कब है? | फ़िल्म सात बजे है। |
The verb sets the time. आप सुबह कब उठते हैं? asks about a habit, and ट्रेन कब आएगी? asks about the future. A planned event can use है even when it is later: मीटिंग कब है? (When is the meeting?)
Add से or तक to change the meaning. कब से means since when or how long: आप यहाँ कब से हैं? (How long have you been here?). कब तक means until when: दुकान कब तक खुली है? (Until when is the shop open?)
For an exact time on the clock, ask कितने बजे: ट्रेन कितने बजे आएगी? (What time will the train come?)
