ზის/სხედან
One or Many Sitting
Some verbs use a different stem for a plural subject: ზის (he sits), სხედან (they sit).
How It Works
A few Georgian verbs change their stem when the subject is plural. The most common is sitting:
| One person | Several people | |
|---|---|---|
| is sitting | ზის | სხედან |
| I am, we are sitting | ვზივარ | ვსხედვართ |
| sat down | დაჯდა | დასხდნენ |
| sit down! | დაჯექი! | დასხედით! |
Lying works the same way: წევს (lies), წვანან (they lie); დაწვა (lay down), დაწვნენ (they lay down).
With a plural subject, switch to the plural stem: ბავშვები მაგიდასთან სხედან (the children are sitting at the table), სტუმრები სუფრასთან დასხდნენ (the guests sat down at the table).
To one person you call თქვენ, say დაჯექით. To ask a guest politely to sit, people often use the honorific verb: დაბრძანდით (please sit down).
