უფროსი/უმცროსი
Older and Younger
უფროსი means older and უმცროსი means younger.
How It Works
უფროსი (uprosi) means older and უმცროსი (umtsrosi) means younger. Georgian uses them for brothers, sisters and other family members, where English says older and younger or big and little.
- ჩემი უფროსი ძმა: my older brother
- ჩემი უმცროსი და: my younger sister
They are adjectives, so they go before the noun and stay the same in the plural: ჩემი უფროსი ძმები (my older brothers).
To compare two people, add -ზე to the other person: ლევანი ჩემზე უფროსი არის (Levani is older than me). To say by how much, use -ით: ორი წლით უფროსი (two years older). For the oldest or youngest, use ყველაზე: ყველაზე უმცროსი (the youngest).
On its own, უფროსი also means a boss or someone in charge: ჩემი უფროსი (my boss).
