წლის (Age)

Saying Your Age

Level 1Sounds Like tsʼlis

Say your age with the number, წლის (of years) and the verb to be.

How It Works

EnglishGeorgian
I'm eight.რვა წლის ვარ.
You're ten.ათი წლის ხარ.
Nino is nine.ნინო ცხრა წლის არის.
We're twenty.ოცი წლის ვართ.
How old are you?რამდენი წლის ხარ?

წლის is a form of წელი (year). Its ე drops out, which you will learn about at Level 2.

For a baby, Georgians count months the same way: ექვსი თვის არის (she is six months old).

To ask politely, use the plural verb: რამდენი წლის ხართ? (How old are you?)

The question uses the same word: რამდენი წლის ხარ? is literally of how many years are you?
