სა-...-ელი (For Doing)
Something for Doing
სა-...-ელი and სა-...-ი say what something is for or what must be done: საჭმელი (food), წასაკითხი წიგნი (a book to read).
How It Works
The future participle names what something is for, or what is still to be done. It is built with სა- (sa-) and an ending such as -ელი, -ი or -ავი:
| Verb | Future participle |
|---|---|
| ჭამს (eats) | საჭმელი (food) |
| სვამს (drinks) | სასმელი (a drink) |
| წაიკითხავს (will read) | წასაკითხი (to be read) |
| ნახავს (will see) | სანახავი (worth seeing) |
| გააკეთებს (will do) | გასაკეთებელი (to be done) |
A preverb comes first: წასაკითხი starts with წა-. Words without a preverb, such as საჭმელი, are often everyday nouns.
The participle can be a noun (დღეს ბევრი გასაკეთებელი მაქვს, I have a lot to do today) or an adjective before a noun (წასაკითხი წიგნი, a book to read).
With -ად, the same participle states a purpose: წერილის გასაგზავნად (to send a letter). That is the next topic.
