ნუ
Don't
Use ნუ before a present or future verb to tell someone not to do something.
How It Works
Georgian has several words for not. ნუ (nu) is the one for asking someone not to do something.
| Word | Job | Example |
|---|---|---|
| არ | a statement | არ ღელავ. (You aren't worried.) |
| ვერ | cannot | ვერ მოვალ. (I can't come.) |
| ნუ | don't, a request | ნუ ღელავ! (Don't worry!) |
ნუ goes with the present when you mean stop doing it or do not keep doing it: ნუ ტირი (don't cry). It goes with the future for a single action: ნუ წახვალ (don't go).
To be polite or to talk to several people, use the plural form of the verb: ნუ ღელავთ, ქალბატონო ნინო.
ნუ ღელავ is one of the most useful phrases in Georgian. You will hear it whenever someone wants to calm you down.
