მგონი
I Think, Maybe
მგონი means I think or probably, and adds a guess to a sentence.
How It Works
მგონი (mgoni) is a small word that shows you are guessing. It never changes, so it fits into any sentence.
| Georgian | English |
|---|---|
| მგონი, წვიმს. | I think it's raining. |
| მგონი, კი. | I think so. |
| მგონი, არა. | I don't think so. |
It usually opens the sentence, followed by a comma. It can also sit in the middle or at the end: ავტობუსი, მგონი, რვა საათზე მოდის (the bus comes at eight, I think).
მგონი comes from the verb მგონია (I think, I believe). The verb has forms for each person, such as ჰგონია (he thinks). მგონი is the short form that people use all the time in speech.
For a real opinion rather than a guess, use ვფიქრობ.
