Leaving Out Pronouns
The verb already shows who does the action, so subject pronouns are often left out.
How It Works
| With the pronoun | Without | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| მე თბილისში ვცხოვრობ. | თბილისში ვცხოვრობ. | I live in Tbilisi. |
| შენ სად მიდიხარ? | სად მიდიხარ? | Where are you going? |
| ჩვენ ქართულს ვსწავლობთ. | ქართულს ვსწავლობთ. | We're learning Georgian. |
The version without the pronoun is the everyday one. The pronoun adds weight, the way English speakers stress I or you.
Keep the pronoun when you switch from one person to another: მე ექიმი ვარ, ის მასწავლებელი არის (I'm a doctor, and he's a teacher).
The same goes for feeling verbs such as მინდა (I want): ყავა მინდა means I want coffee, with no მე.
