-კენ
Toward
Add -კენ to the genitive to say toward.
How It Works
| Noun | Genitive | Toward |
|---|---|---|
| სახლი | სახლის | სახლისკენ |
| ზღვა | ზღვის | ზღვისკენ |
| ქალაქი | ქალაქის | ქალაქისკენ |
| ნინო | ნინოს | ნინოსკენ |
Compare it with -ში. სახლში მივდივარ means I'm going home, into the house itself. სახლისკენ მივდივარ means I'm heading home, in that direction.
-კენ is common with verbs of going, running and looking: ყველა ფანჯრისკენ იყურება (everyone is looking toward the window).
Most words that end in -ო have their genitive in -ს, so -კენ follows the -ს directly: ნინოსკენ, მეტროსკენ.
Like -ში and -ზე, -კენ joins the word with no space. For the opposite direction, away from a place, use -დან: სახლიდან (from home).
