-ის მიმართ
Toward a Person
After a genitive, მიმართ means toward or to, for feelings, attitudes and behavior.
How It Works
მიმართ (mimart) follows a genitive and names who or what a feeling or an attitude is aimed at:
- ბავშვების მიმართ სიყვარული (love toward children)
- ერთმანეთის მიმართ პატივისცემა (respect for each other)
- ქართული ღვინის მიმართ ინტერესი (interest in Georgian wine)
It goes with nouns of feeling (სიყვარული, პატივისცემა, ინტერესი) and with describing words for how someone behaves: სამართლიანი (fair), კეთილი (kind), თბილი (warm).
English says toward, to, for or in here. Georgian can use მიმართ for all of them when the meaning is an attitude. Movement in space takes -კენ (Level 3): სახლისკენ წავიდა (he headed home).
In formal writing you may also see -ადმი glued to the genitive, with the same meaning: ბავშვებისადმი სიყვარული.
