plaĉi
Plaĉi: To Please
The thing that is good is the subject, and the person who enjoys it follows al.
How It Works
| Verb | Subject | Example |
|---|---|---|
| plaĉi | the thing that pleases | La libro plaĉas al mi. |
| ŝati | the person who likes | Mi ŝatas la libron. |
Both sentences mean "I like the book". With plaĉi, the book is the subject and has no -n. With ŝati, the person is the subject, and the book is the object with -n.
The pronoun after al has the plain form: al mi, al ŝi. An infinitive can be the subject of plaĉi: Plaĉas al Ana kanti.
Do not mix the two patterns. Plaĉi is not followed by an object, and ŝati is not followed by al.
