eĉ
Even
Eĉ marks the surprising word.
How It Works
| Sentence | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Eĉ infanoj komprenas. | Even children understand. |
| Mi eĉ ne scias. | I do not even know. |
| Mi ne scias eĉ la nomon. | I do not know even the name. |
| Kofi laboras eĉ dimanĉe. | Kofi works even on Sundays. |
In each sentence eĉ stands right before the word that surprises. It can stress a person, an action, a thing or a time. It is a small word and takes no ending.
For even if, put eĉ before se: Mi iros, eĉ se pluvos. Here eĉ stresses the whole condition: it may rain, and I go anyway.
