jam, ankoraŭ, ne plu
Already, Still, No Longer
Jam and ankoraŭ look at the same moment from opposite sides.
How It Works
| Word | Example | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| jam | Li jam dormas. | he is asleep by now |
| ankoraŭ | Li ankoraŭ dormas. | he is still asleep |
| ne plu | Li ne plu dormas. | he is not asleep any more |
| ankoraŭ ne | Li ankoraŭ ne dormas. | he is not asleep yet |
In a question, jam means yet: Ĉu vi jam manĝis? The pair ne jam is possible, but most people say ankoraŭ ne. Say ne plu, with ne first.
Ankoraŭ is not ankaŭ. The first one is about time, and the second one means also.
