almenaŭ, precipe, ĉefe, ĝuste

At Least, Especially, Mainly, Exactly

Level 5

Each word marks one part of the sentence, so put it right before that part.

How It Works

WordMeaningExample
almenaŭat leastalmenaŭ tri horojn
precipeespecially, above allprecipe la finon
ĉefemainlyĉefe por infanoj
ĝusteexactly, preciselyĝuste nun

Like ankaŭ and nur, these words stand right before the part they point at, and the meaning follows the position. Almenaŭ Ana venis says that Ana at least came. Ana almenaŭ telefonis says that what Ana did was at least to phone.

Do not use ĵus for exactly. Ĵus always points to the past, a moment ago. For right now, say ĝuste nun. Ĝuste also suits a place, as in ĝuste apud la pordo (right beside the door).

Precipe picks one thing out of several, and ĉefe says that most of the reason or the weight lies there.

Examples (5)

  1. Ni ŝatas la urbon, precipe la malnovan stacidomon.

We like the town, especially the old station.

Precipe stands before the part it picks out.

  2. Almenaŭ Ana venis al la kunveno.

At least Ana came to the meeting.

    Almenaŭ points at Ana.

  3. La festo estas ĉefe por la infanoj.

The party is mainly for the children.

Ĉefe points at the people the party is for.

  4. Ĝuste nun Wei skribas leteron al sia amiko en Brazilo.

Right now Wei is writing a letter to his friend in Brazil.

Ĝuste nun means at this very moment.

  5. Mi bezonas almenaŭ tri horojn por la laboro.

I need at least three hours for the work.

Almenaŭ goes before the amount it limits.

Common Mistakes

  • Using ĵus for right now.

Wei ĵus skribas leteron al sia amiko.
Wei ĝuste nun skribas leteron al sia amiko.

Ĵus always points to the past, a moment ago. For right now, say ĝuste nun.
