ĵus / baldaŭ
Just Now and Soon
Three short time words: a moment ago, in a moment, and at once.
How It Works
| Word | Example | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| ĵus | Greta ĵus alvenis. | just now, a moment ago |
| baldaŭ | Ni baldaŭ manĝos. | soon, after a short time |
| tuj | Wei respondas tuj. | at once, without waiting |
Ĵus goes with a past verb such as alvenis. It does not mean right now. For that, say ĝuste nun.
Tuj also fits a place: tuj apud la hotelo means right next to the hotel. Before a time, use tuj and not ĵus: tuj antaŭ la manĝo (right before the meal).
Baldaŭ can sit before or after the verb, and it usually goes with -os. Tuj shows that nobody waits: Venu tuj! (come at once).
