هنوز و دیگر

Still, Yet and Anymore

Level 3

هنوز with a negative present perfect means not yet: هنوز نیامده‌ام.

How It Works

PatternMeaningExample
هنوز + positive verbstillهنوز در کابل زندگی می‌کنم.
هنوز + negative present perfectnot yetهنوز نیامده‌ام.
دیگر + negative verbnot anymoreدیگر چای نمی‌خورم.

Questions use the same pattern: بس هنوز نیامده است؟ (Hasn't the bus come yet?)

You build the present perfect from the past participle and the short endings: آمده‌ام, آمده‌ای, آمده است. Only a negative verb makes دیگر mean not anymore. After a noun, دیگر means another, which is a separate pattern.

هنوز هم says still with more weight: هنوز هم گرم است. (It is still warm.) A question can use it too: هنوز هم در کابل زندگی می‌کنی؟ (Do you still live in Kabul?)

  3. دیگر دیر نمی‌آیم.

    I won't come late anymore.

دیگر with نمی‌ means not anymore.

  4. بس هنوز نیامده است؟

  5. هنوز هوا سرد است.

Common Mistakes

  • Writing the present perfect ending as a separate word.

    هنوز نان چاشت نخورده ام.
    هنوز نان چاشت نخورده‌ام.

The ending ـام joins the word with a half-space, not a full space.
