Enclisis with Affirmative Imperatives

Level 4

Attach weak pronouns after affirmative imperative forms.

How It Works

A positive instruction places its pronouns after the verb: mira'l, porta-la, digueu-ho. The written attachment uses hyphens and apostrophes according to the verb ending and the pronoun's form. With two pronouns, maintain the cluster's normal grammatical order.

Adding no changes both the mood pattern and the pronoun position: mira'l becomes no el miris. Do not simply place no before a positive imperative with its enclitic pronoun still attached.

The person addressed matters. Tu commands may differ from vosaltres or respectful vós forms. In a longer instruction, each verb determines its own placement, so an introductory finite verb and a following imperative need not share the same position.

Examples (3)

  1. Mira'l amb atenció.

    Look at it carefully.

  2. Digueu-ho més a poc a poc.

    Say it more slowly.

  3. Porta-me-la demà.

    Bring it to me tomorrow.
