နဲ့တူ
Looking Like Someone
To say two people look alike, join them with နဲ့ and end with တူတယ်.
How It Works
တူ is a verb that means "to be alike". The thing you compare with takes နဲ့, the same word that means "with". So ခင်ခင်က အမေနဲ့ တူတယ်။ means that Khin Khin looks like her mother.
| Burmese | English |
|---|---|
| A က B နဲ့ တူတယ်။ | A looks like B. |
| A က B နဲ့ မတူဘူး။ | A is not like B. |
| A ဘယ်သူနဲ့ တူလဲ။ | Who does A look like? |
| A နဲ့ B တူတယ်။ | A and B are alike. |
The same pattern works for places, food and sounds, so you can say a town is like Yangon or a dish is like one you know. Add အရမ်း before တူ for "looks a lot like".
For the negative, put မ before တူ and end with ဘူး: နဲ့ မတူဘူး. The word နဲ့ stays where it is. To say "like" in the sense of "in the same way as", use လို (ကလေးလို ငိုတယ်။ He cries like a child.).
