သွား

A Change That Has Happened

Level 3

သွား also keeps its sense of going away: ယူသွား means "take with you".

How It Works

သွား means "go". After another verb, it shows a change that is complete: the old state is gone. English uses "got", "went" or "has become".

VerbWith သွားEnglish
It got lost.
I forgot.
It has gone cold.
It broke down.
It's over.

Use သွား for losing, forgetting, breaking, finishing, and getting thinner or bigger. With ပြီ, it says the change has happened and still holds now: ဟင်း အေးသွားပြီ (the food has gone cold).

Its partner is လာ, for a change that is still growing: ပူလာတယ် (it's getting hot). For a loss, always use သွား.

သွား also keeps its sense of moving away: ယူသွား (take with you), ထွက်သွား (go out).

Common Mistakes

  • Using လာ for a loss.

Losing something takes သွား; လာ is for a change that is still growing.
