…ရော …ရော
Both This and That
With a negative verb, the same pattern means "neither … nor": အမဲသားရော ဝက်သားရော မစားဘူး။ (I eat neither beef nor pork.)
How It Works
Put ရော after each item, then say the verb once at the end. The verb covers both items.
| Example | Meaning |
|---|---|
| အမေရော အဖေရော လာမယ်။ | Both Mum and Dad are coming. |
| ပုဂံရော အင်းလေးရော ရောက်ဖူးတယ်။ | I've been to both Bagan and Inle Lake. |
| အမဲသားရော ဝက်သားရော မစားဘူး။ | I eat neither beef nor pork. |
With a positive verb it means "both". With a negative verb it means "neither … nor".
A pattern with လည်း says the same thing, and it repeats the verb for each item: ကော်ဖီလည်း ကြိုက်တယ်၊ လက်ဖက်ရည်လည်း ကြိုက်တယ်။ With ရော, you say the verb once.
A single ရော after a person, in a question, means "and what about…?": ခင်ဗျားရော။ (And you?) It works like ကော.
ရော can join more than two items, as long as each one takes its own ရော.
