To ask someone to pick one, Burmese puts လား after each choice: လက်ဖက်ရည်လား ကော်ဖီလား။

How It Works

ဒါမှမဟုတ် means "or". It stands between the two choices, with a space on each side.

When it joins two actions, each action keeps its own ending.

Use it in plans, suggestions and choices you offer: ဖုန်းဆက်ပါ ဒါမှမဟုတ် စာပို့ပါ။ (Call me or send a message.)

To ask a which-one question, Burmese uses လား after each choice: လက်ဖက်ရည်လား ကော်ဖီလား။ (Tea or coffee?) That pattern has its own entry.

In writing, the same word is သို့မဟုတ်.

ဒါမှမဟုတ် can also start a sentence that offers another idea: ဒါမှမဟုတ် မနက်ဖြန် သွားမလား။ (Or shall we go tomorrow?)
