Все ми е едно. (It's all the same to me.) Говори, все едно знае всичко. (He talks as if he knows everything.)

How It Works

1. It makes no difference. The person goes in the dative, as in студено ми е:

  • Все ми е едно къде ще отидем. (It's all the same to me where we go.)
  • На него му е все едно. (He doesn't care.)

On its own at the start of a sentence, Все едно means never mind, whatever: Все едно, ще опитам пак. (Never mind, I'll try again.) It can sound resigned or dismissive.

2. As if. Before a clause, все едно (or все едно че) compares with a situation that is not real: Говори, все едно знае всичко. (He talks as if he knows everything.) Все едно не съм чул. (I'll act as if I didn't hear that.)

3. It is like doing something. With да it equates two actions: Да говориш с него е все едно да говориш на стената. (Talking to him is like talking to a wall.)

4. Not the same as все пак. Все пак means still, anyway, nevertheless: something holds despite what was said before, as in Все пак благодаря. (Thanks anyway.) Все едно expresses indifference. For a free-choice meaning like whoever, see който и да.

Common Mistakes

  • Translating "I don't care" with съм and a subject.

    Аз съм все едно.
    Все ми е едно.

    The person who doesn't mind goes in the dative (ми, ти, му ...), and the verb is е: Все ми е едно.

  • Starting the sentence with the short pronoun.

    Ми е все едно.
    Все ми е едно.

    A short pronoun such as ми cannot begin a sentence. Put все first, as in Все ми е едно, or start with the full pronoun: На мен ми е все едно.
