по- + Adjective + от
Comparing with От
Make the comparative with по-, then name the other thing after от: Иван е по-висок от Петър. (Ivan is taller than Petar.)
How It Works
1. The pattern. comparative + от + the thing compared with:
- Иван е по-висок от Петър. (Ivan is taller than Petar.)
- Днес е по-студено от вчера. (Today is colder than yesterday.)
- Тя говори английски по-добре от мен. (She speaks English better than I do.)
2. Forming the comparative. Add по- with a hyphen to any adjective or adverb: по-голям (bigger), по-добър (better), по-бързо (faster). See comparatives with по-. The adjective still agrees with its noun: Сестра ми е по-голяма от мен. (My sister is older than me.)
3. Pronouns after от. От is a preposition, so use the full pronoun forms: от мен (than me), от теб, от него, от нея, от нас, от вас, от тях. See full object pronouns.
4. Before a clause: отколкото. If what follows has its own verb, use отколкото: Филмът беше по-хубав, отколкото очаквах. (The film was better than I expected.)
5. Amounts. Повече and по-малко work the same way: Работя повече от теб. (I work more than you.)
