-त with होई makes a guess about what is happening now.

How It Works

This pattern says "he must be doing it" or "he is probably doing it". It looks like the -त बा form, but the helper is होई or होखब instead of बा.

You can also guess with होई alone, without an action verb: ऊ घरे होई means he must be at home. With a past form it guesses about something that has already happened: रउआ थाकल होखब means you must be tired.

A guess is not a plan. Use the real future (करब, करी) for what you will do.

  1. ऊ अबहीं खाना खात होई।

    He must be eating now.

    खात होई guesses about now.

  2. रउआ थाकल होखब।

    You must be tired.

    रउआ takes होखब.

  3. लइका अब सुतत होई।

    The child must be sleeping by now.

    -त होई again, with a plain ऊ.

  4. बाबूजी अबहीं खेत में होइहें।

    Father must be in the field now.

    A respected person takes होइहें.

  5. रउआ सभे सोचत होखब कि ई बड़ा कठिन बा।

    You must all be thinking this is very hard.

    होखब fits रउआ सभे.

Common Mistakes

  • Using the Hindi होगा.

    ऊ अबहीं खाना खात होगा।
    ऊ अबहीं खाना खात होई।

    होगा is Hindi. Bhojpuri uses होई for a plain ऊ.
