Repeating Words

Level 4Sounds Like dhīrē-dhīrē ā gharē-gharē

Repeating a word adds a meaning of more, every or little by little.

How It Works

Doubling is common in everyday Bhojpuri.

TypeExampleMeaning
Adverbधीरे-धीरेslowly, little by little
Noun with -एघरे-घरेin every home
Nounगाँव-गाँवin every village
Timeसबेरे-सबेरेearly in the morning

Nouns that take -ए (घरे, बजारे) double with -ए on each part. A word that already has a place ending keeps it: घरे-घरे.

Doubling does not change the grammar of the rest of the sentence. The verb agrees with the subject as usual.
