All Through: भर

Level 4Sounds Like bhara

भर after a time or place word means all of it, from start to end.

How It Works

भर stretches a noun to its full length. After a time word it means "all through"; after a place word it means "the whole of".

WordWith भरMeaning
दिनदिन भरall day
रातरात भरall night
सालसाल भरall year round
गाँवगाँव भरthe whole village

The noun comes first and भर second: दिन भर, not भर दिन. The verb is often a -त form with रहब, because the action goes on for a long time.

भर also works with a person group: घर भर means everyone in the house. The noun does not change before भर.
