bundan tashqari / qolaversa
Besides That, What Is More
Point 1. Bundan tashqari, point 2. = Besides this, ... Qolaversa, point 2. = What is more, ...
How It Works
Use these words to add another point that supports what you just said.
1. Bundan tashqari
It is bu (this) + -dan + tashqari, so it means literally apart from this. Note the n in bundan, as in bunga. You may also hear undan tashqari and shundan tashqari.
- Bu uy arzon, bundan tashqari, metroga yaqin. This flat is cheap, and besides, it is near the metro.
2. Qolaversa
It comes from qolmoq (to remain) with the conditional -sa, like saying and on top of that. Writers often use it for the last, strongest point.
- Unga yordam berishimiz kerak. Qolaversa, u bizning doʻstimiz. We should help him. What is more, he is our friend.
3. Punctuation
As parenthetical words, they take a comma after them, and one before them too when they come in the middle of a sentence.
4. Often with ham
The added point often includes ham (also): Bu ish qiziq, qolaversa, maoshi ham yaxshi.
5. The postposition behind it
Inside a sentence, -dan tashqari means besides or except: Mendan tashqari hamma keldi (Everyone came except me). At the start of a new point, Bundan tashqari, means besides this.
