Keep نام and its possessive phrase together before کیا ہے.

How It Works

آپ کا نام کیا ہے؟ means what is your name? It is a respectful question.

میرا نام ندا ہے means my name is Nida. میرا agrees with نام.

ان کا نام کیا ہے؟ can ask one person’s name respectfully. Context identifies that person; ان does not specify their gender.

With a familiar friend, تمہارا نام کیا ہے؟ uses the familiar possessive.

آپ کا نام کیا ہے؟

The respectful question uses آپ کا.
میرا نام ندا ہے
My name is Nida.
میرا agrees with masculine نام.
ان کا نام کیا ہے؟
What is her name?
This translation assumes one woman from context. ان can refer respectfully to a man or woman; it does not encode gender.
تمہارا نام کیا ہے؟
What is your name?
تمہارا is the familiar possessive.
