ปกติ introduces the usual situation in the first two examples. Other examples use it in “later than usual,” a regular habit, and the description of a state.

How It Works

1. Read The Usual Situation
ปกติผมไม่ดื่มกาแฟตอนเย็น describes not drinking coffee in the evening as the speaker’s usual habit. ปกติแล้วเขาจะมาถึงที่นี่แปดโมง gives eight o’clock as the usual arrival time. These statements do not guarantee that there are no exceptions.

2. Notice The Other Patterns
ช้ากว่าปกติ means later or slower than usual in its context. เขามาสายเป็นปกติ describes lateness as a regular habit. เป็นเรื่องปกติที่ introduces the situation presented as normal. ราคาปกติ means the normal or usual price. Read the complete phrase rather than assigning one sentence position to every ปกติ.

3. Read The Speaker’s Description
เป็นเรื่องปกติที่ฝนจะตกทุกวันในฤดูนี้ presents daily rain as usual in the season being discussed. The grammar lesson does not verify a climate claim about every season. เครื่องยนต์ทำงานผิดปกติ says that an engine is working abnormally. ผิดปกติ and ไม่ปกติ can both describe something outside the usual state; their exact force depends on context, rather than one always being softer.

4. Compare The Intended Meaning
มักจะ describes a tendency in its own examples; it can begin an utterance when the subject is omitted or understood. The active task requests the full initial phrase ปกติผมไปวิ่งตอนเช้า. ธรรมดา can mean ordinary or plain, but a food order using ปกติ can also refer to the usual order or version in a suitable setting. Do not classify the original isolated food-order pair as universally wrong. Describing people with either word depends on context; this lesson does not define a person’s worth or mental and physical functioning.

    Using เป็นปกติ at the end of a sentence describes an action that happens as a regular habit or standard occurrence.

    Adding ผิด (deviating from) before ปกติ creates the antonym ผิดปกติ, meaning 'abnormal' or 'unusual'.

Common Mistakes

  • For the requested opening “Normally, I go running in the morning,” placing มักจะ before the explicit subject ผม.

    This task requests ปกติผมไปวิ่งตอนเช้า. In the displayed alternative มักจะผมไปวิ่งตอนเช้า, มักจะ comes before the explicit ผม instead of modifying the following verb phrase in the ordinary tendency construction. This does not ban subjectless utterances beginning with มักจะ.
