bi + Participle

The Conditional

Level 3

Bi is invariant across persons.

How It Works

Bi is invariant across persons. Combine it with an l-participle whose gender and number match the subject to express a hypothetical action or a softened request.

Compare jaz bi prišel, Ana bi prišla and midva bi prišla. The participle supplies agreement while bi remains the same. In Rad bi prišel, rad adds willingness or desire; bi alone does not mean like.

Examples (3)

  1. Rad bi prišel.

    I would like to come.

  2. Ana bi pomagala.

    Ana would help.

  3. Midva bi ostala.

    We two would stay.
