o
The Pronoun O
O stands for an idea: I know it, they say so.
How It Works
| What was said | Reply with o |
|---|---|
| Marta es malauta? | O cresi. |
| Joan ven deman? | O sabi pas. |
| Plòu uèi. | O dison. |
Compare lo, la, los and las, which replace a noun with a gender: Lo libre? Lo legissi. O replaces an idea with no gender: O sabi.
O does not translate the it of it is late or it is true. Occitan uses no pronoun there: Es tard and Es vertat, not O es tard. Use o for what was just said, before the verb.
With créser, saber and dire, the pronoun o often saves you from repeating a whole clause.
