qualque, qualques

Some and a Few

Level 3

Qualque + singular, qualques + plural: some, a few.

How It Works

SingularPlural
qualque jorn, some dayqualques jorns, a few days
qualque femna, some womanqualques femnas, a few women
qualque amic, some friendqualques amics, a few friends

Qualque còp means sometimes, and fa qualques ans means a few years ago.

The two forms are the only difference: qualque for one, qualques for more than one. A masculine and a feminine noun take the same word.

Do not mix this up with unes and unas, which pick out certain ones from a group.

Common Mistakes

  • Using the singular form with a plural noun.

    Ai qualque amics a Besièrs.
    Ai qualques amics a Besièrs.

    A plural noun takes qualques.

  • Using the French quelques.

    Ai quelques amics a Besièrs.
    Ai qualques amics a Besièrs.

Quelques is French. Occitan writes qualques.
