अगाडि / पछाडि / नजिक

In Front, Behind and Near

Level 2Sounds Like agāḍi, pachāḍi ra najika

Noun + को + place word.

How It Works

Unlike भित्र and माथि, these three words are written apart. A small को joins the noun first.

PhraseMeaning
घरको अगाडिin front of the house
घरको पछाडिbehind the house
बजारको नजिकnear the market

A full sentence: स्कुलको अगाडि एउटा चिया पसल छ (there is a tea shop in front of the school).

If the thing you describe is plural, को stays the same. If the noun is a person, को still joins: दिदीको पछाडि (behind my sister).

The words can also stand alone and mean ahead or behind: अगाडि जानुहोस् (go ahead), पछाडि बस्नुहोस् (sit at the back).

Write को joined to the noun and the place word as its own word: बजारको नजिक.

Examples (5)

  1. मेरो घर बजारको नजिक छ।

My house is near the market.

    को joins बजार, then नजिक follows.

On its own, अगाडि means ahead.

Common Mistakes

  • Joining the place word to the noun, as with भित्र and माथि.

    घरअगाडि रुख छ।
    घरको अगाडि रुख छ।

These words stay apart, and को usually comes first.
