Besides and Along with That
Both words open the added fact, and a comma often follows
How It Works
First give a fact. Then add another with शिवाय or त्याचबरोबर. (Water has collected on the roads. Besides, the bus service is shut too.)
| First fact | Added fact |
|---|---|
शिवाय usually opens a sentence, with a comma after it. It adds a point of the same kind. त्याचबरोबर is a little longer and adds a fact that goes hand in hand with the first. Both often go with -ही or सुद्धा later in the clause.
A woman might say: A man might say: Each second sentence adds to the first.
Do not confuse this शिवाय with the ending -शिवाय, which means "without": तिकिटाशिवाय. The ending is joined to a noun. The adding word stands alone and opens a clause.
