ने for Agreement

Asking for Agreement with ने

Level 3Sounds Like nē (bala)

ने at the end of a sentence asks the listener to agree or adds a friendly push.

How It Works

ने has two jobs.

(You will come, won't you?) (This is good, isn't it?)
  • Adding a friendly push: चलू ने! (Come on!) (Do give me some water.)

The rising voice marks a question, and a falling voice marks a push.

SentenceMeaning
You did say so, didn't you?
Come on!

It fits friends and family best. In formal writing, use plain questions instead.

Do not use ने after a subject in the past. Maithili says हम फिल्म देखलहुँ, and राम फिल्म देखलनि, with no ने.
