जतेक ... ततेक

The More ... the More

Level 4Sounds Like jatēka ... tatēka

जतेक ... ततेक links two amounts so that one follows the other.

How It Works

जतेक means "as much as" and ततेक means "that much". Together they connect two amounts: "as much as A, that much B". The same pair of words also works for numbers of things.

Two ways to use it:

  • Growing together: जतेक पढ़ब, ततेक सीखब. The more one goes up, the more the other does.
  • Take what you need: जतेक चाही, ततेक लिअ. Here it means "take as much as you want".

Both words stay the same for any noun. They do not change for gender, number or respect. The verb in the first part is often the -ब future form, because it describes something you will do.

Hindi uses जितना and उतना here. Do not carry those over into Maithili.
