धरि

Until or as Far as

Level 2Sounds Like dhari

धरि marks an end point in time or place.

How It Works

TypeExample
timeसाँझ धरि रहू। (Stay until evening.)
placeस्टेशन धरि जाउ। (Go as far as the station.)
rangeभोर सँ साँझ धरि (from morning until evening)

धरि also forms questions with कखन (when): अहाँ कखन धरि रहब? (How long, until when, will you stay?).

Use भरि, not धरि, when you mean "all through" a period: दिन भरि (all day long). धरि names the end; भरि covers the whole stretch.

Hindi uses तक for the same idea. Do not borrow it: write धरि.
