гледа како / слуша како
Seeing and Hearing Someone Act
Use како + a present verb for an action you watch or hear: Го видов како влегува. (I saw him going in.) Ги слушам децата како пеат. (I hear the children singing.)
How It Works
The pattern. Short pronoun + гледа / види / слуша / слушне + the person + како + present verb.
- Го видов како влегува во зградата. (I saw him going into the building.)
- Ја гледав како танцува. (I watched her dance.)
- Ги слушам децата како пеат. (I hear the children singing.)
Doubling. A named or definite person is doubled, as with any definite object: Го видов Марко како влегува. See doubling a definite object. If you do not know who is acting, that person can simply be the subject after како: Слушнав како некој ја отвора вратата. (I heard someone opening the door.)
The tense after како. For an action that was going on while you watched, the verb after како usually stays in the present, even in a story about the past: Го видовме како влегува во автомобил. (We saw him getting into a car.) This is like reported speech, where the tense also stays: see reporting what someone said.
Како or дека. Видов дека е уморен means "I saw (noticed) that he was tired": дека gives a fact you realized. Како shows the action itself as you watched it happen.
Како as "how". Како can also mean "how": Ми покажа како се прави. (He showed me how it is done.) See questions inside a sentence. After a verb of seeing or hearing with a person as its object, it usually describes the action you perceived.
