-ने के बाद = after doing: खाने के बाद (after eating).
How It Works
के बाद means after. After the -ने form of a verb, it means after doing: किताब पढ़ने के बाद मैं सो गया (After reading the book, I went to sleep).

No tense inside. English says after I ate or after I eat. Hindi uses the same -ने form every time, and the main verb shows the time: खाना खाने के बाद हम टहलेंगे (We'll go for a walk after eating).
Who does it. Usually the same person does both actions. To name someone else, put a possessive in front: रीमा के आने के बाद हम चले गए (After Reema arrived, we left).
Compare -कर. खाना खाकर सो जाओ and खाना खाने के बाद सो जाओ mean almost the same. -कर is shorter and needs the same person for both actions. -ने के बाद can name a different person.
The ने in खाने is part of the verb. It is not the ने that follows a subject.

Call me after you finish work.
The main verb gives an instruction.
- कॉलेज ख़त्म होने के बाद उसे नौकरी मिल गई।
After college ended, she got a job.
The -ने phrase and the main clause have different subjects.
Common Mistakes
Using the past form instead of the -ने form.
खाना खाया के बाद हम घूमने गए।खाना खाने के बाद हम घूमने गए।Before के बाद, always use the -ने form, even for past events.
