के अंदर / के बाहर
Inside and Outside
के अंदर means inside and के बाहर means outside; alone, अंदर and बाहर mean in and out.
How It Works
Both phrases follow the place: डिब्बे के अंदर (inside the box), शहर के बाहर (outside the city), घर के बाहर (outside the house).
में or के अंदर? For ordinary location, में is enough: बच्चे कमरे में हैं. के अंदर stresses being inside, often in contrast with outside: गाड़ी के अंदर बहुत गर्मी है (It's very hot inside the car).
Alone, अंदर and बाहर are everyday adverbs: अंदर आइए (Come in), पापा बाहर हैं (Dad is out), बाहर मत जाओ (Don't go out).
Coming out of a place uses से बाहर: वह कमरे से बाहर आया (He came out of the room). For going into a place, use में or के अंदर: वह घर के अंदर गया.
The noun changes as before any postposition (कमरा → कमरे के अंदर), and pronouns take the form ending in -े: मेरे अंदर, उसके बाहर.
के अंदर also works for time: एक हफ़्ते के अंदर (within a week).
