საერთოდ
At All, In General
საერთოდ means at all with a negative and in general in other sentences.
How It Works
საერთოდ (saertod) changes its English meaning with the sentence around it.
| Where | Meaning | Example |
|---|---|---|
| with არ or არაფერი | at all | საერთოდ არ მიყვარს ყავა. |
| at the start, with a comma | in general | საერთოდ, ადრე ვიღვიძებ. |
| in a question | at all | საერთოდ ჭამ ხორცს? |
With a negative, საერთოდ usually stands right before არ or before the no-word: ამ ფილმზე საერთოდ არაფერი ვიცი (I don't know anything at all about this film).
In the question საერთოდ ჭამ ხორცს? (Do you eat meat at all?), the speaker really does not know the answer.
When it means in general, it starts a statement about what is usually true, and a comma follows it.
