ასი/ათასი
Hundreds and Thousands
ასი is 100 and ათასი is 1,000; before another number they drop -ი: ას ოცი (120).
How It Works
| Number | Georgian |
|---|---|
| 100 | ასი |
| 200 | ორასი |
| 300 | სამასი |
| 500 | ხუთასი |
| 1,000 | ათასი |
| 2,000 | ორი ათასი |
For the hundreds, the small number joins ასი as one word: ორი and ასი make ორასი. Numbers that end in -ი lose it first, so სამი becomes სამასი. ათასი stays a separate word: ორი ათასი.
When more numbers follow, ასი and ათასი lose their final -ი, and the next number comes after a space:
- ას ოცი: 120
- ორას ორმოცდაათი: 250
- ათას ხუთასი: 1,500
The noun after a number stays singular, as with smaller numbers: ასი ლარი (100 lari), ხუთასი ბავშვი (500 children).
