ხომ (As You Know)
As You Know
In a statement, ხომ reminds someone of something they know: ხომ გითხარი! (I told you!)
How It Works
At Level 2, ხომ (khom) asked a question that expects yes: ხომ კარგია? (It's good, right?). In a statement, the same word reminds the listener of something they already know. English says you know, after all or I told you.
- ხომ გითხარი! (I told you!)
- ხომ იცი, ხვალ დაბადების დღე მაქვს. (You know, tomorrow is my birthday.)
- ნინო ხომ ექიმია, ის დაგეხმარება. (Nino is a doctor, after all; she'll help you.)
Your voice tells the two apart. Ask the question as a question, and say the reminder like an ordinary statement. In writing, the reminder often ends with an exclamation mark or a full stop.
The reminder often gives a reason: დღეს ხომ კვირაა, ბანკი არ მუშაობს (it's Sunday, after all, so the bank isn't open).
